Passing Over

...we are at a moment in history when the Eagle – representing intellect and the mind – and the Condor – representing wisdom and the heart – must come together to ensure the continued existence of humankind.

...a request for allies from the North who would "change the dream of the modern world"—shifting our culture of overconsumption to one that honors and sustains life. - Pachamama Alliance

When I do pass over to another person, I do not come straight away to see the other in a new light. I come rather to see what the other sees and feel what the other feels. That is what passing over is, entering into the standpoint of another, seeing with another's eyes, feeling with another's heart. It is like going from the northern to the southern hemisphere and seeing the stars in new constellations in the night sky. There are stars that can be seen only in the northern sky, as the North Star itself and the constellations of the Big and the Little Dipper, and there are those that can be seen only in the southern sky, as in the constellations of the Southern Cross, and there are those that can be seen in both, as the constellation Orion the Hunter. Thus, when I travel to the southern hemisphere, I come to see stars and constellations I have never seen before, although I see also the continuity and the overlap of the northern and southern sky. So too, when I pass over into another's life, I see events and patterns of events I have never seen before, although I see a continuity and an overlap of my life and the other's. I come by traveling to see the whole sky over time and all the stars that are visible to the naked eye. So too, I come by passing over to see human existence as a whole and all the things that belong to a human life. - John Dunne, The House of Wisdom, p. 13-14, Ch. 1. Unresolved Symbol.
